Nigeria's Tinubu Government to Develop Halal Ecosystem

During the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group's annual meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, Chief of Staff Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia stated that President Bola Tinubu's administration is prioritizing the development of a halal ecosystem in Nigeria. This initiative is part of a strategy to enhance the economy by tapping into the halal market, which is one of the fastest-growing sectors globally.

The halal economy, which adheres to Islamic law, extends beyond food to include lifestyle products and services. Hadejia emphasized that Nigeria, with the largest livestock population in Africa, has significant advantages to exploit this market, particularly in exporting livestock products to the Middle East.

The government aims to create a framework that supports micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to ensure economic inclusivity. Hadejia also noted the importance of addressing logistical issues affecting food inflation in Nigeria, which is currently driven by food supply challenges.
