2026 Dialogue on Sustainable Development in Osogbo

The 2026 International Sustainable Development Dialogue, hosted by Osun State University in partnership with Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung and the University of Warwick, addressed sustainable development challenges in the Global South. The conference, which lasted three days, was opened by Vice Chancellor Prof. Odunayo Adebooy, who urged stakeholders to champion Africa-led approaches to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Prof. Adetunji Kehind highlighted that SDGs provide a necessary roadmap for human progress but often overlook historical and cultural realities. Prof. John Agbonifo discussed the limitations of conventional development solutions, arguing that many initiatives fail to produce expected results despite significant investments.

He emphasized the need for deeper examination of the assumptions underpinning traditional development solutions and called for greater accountability from governments to achieve sustainable development through genuine citizen engagement.
