Makinde Promotes Religious Harmony at Isese Day 2026

At the 2026 Isese Day celebration held at Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde, represented by Deputy Chief of Staff Kazeem Adeniyi, reaffirmed the Oyo State Government's commitment to promoting religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among the three major faiths: Christianity, Islam, and traditional religion. Makinde emphasized that the recognition of Isese by the government aims to preserve Yoruba history and culture rather than favor any religion.

He commended traditional religion adherents for their role in preserving Yoruba culture and assured continued government partnership with traditional institutions to enhance cultural tourism and economic opportunities. Acting Governor Bayo Lawal, also represented by Adeniyi, highlighted the importance of unity and interfaith cooperation for Oyo State's stability and development.

He urged residents to maintain mutual assistance among religious groups. Leaders of traditional religion, Omikunmi Egbelade and Ifalere Odegbola, called for structured programs to document and promote Isese traditions, expressing concern over the potential loss of indigenous knowledge.
