Makinde Celebrates Hijrah, Advocates Religious Harmony

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde celebrated Hijrah 1448/2026 with Muslim faithful on Monday, emphasizing the importance of religious harmony in the state. In a statement shared on X, he highlighted that his administration has successfully resisted attempts to divide Oyo State along religious lines throughout his tenure.

Makinde expressed gratitude for the support received from Muslims, Christians, traditional worshippers, and non-religious individuals, which he believes has helped maintain peace and unity. He noted that this celebration marks his final Hijrah observance as governor, as his tenure is set to end in 2027.

During the event, he wished residents a prosperous and peaceful Islamic year and prayed for the next administration to prioritize peace and the welfare of the people of Oyo State. Hijrah commemorates the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar and the migration of Prophet Muhammad from Makkah to Madinah.
