Israel Accuses Iran of Supporting Extremism in Nigeria

In an interview on Friday, Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, accused the Iranian government of sponsoring extremist groups in Nigeria, which he claims aim to destabilize the country and pursue hostility against Israel. Freeman specifically mentioned that Iran has spent decades supporting militant groups and terrorist organizations globally, with a focus on destabilizing regions including Nigeria.

He highlighted the Islamic Movement of Nigeria as a recipient of Iranian support, referencing statements from Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, that indicate Tehran's intent to undermine Nigeria's sovereignty. Freeman expressed concern that Iran's activities extend beyond Nigeria, contributing to instability in parts of West Africa, Europe, and Australia.

He emphasized that Israel will not permit Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, arguing that Iran's hostile stance towards Israel represents a significant security threat. As of the latest report, the Iranian government has not publicly responded to these allegations.
