ISWAP Fighter Surrenders to Nigerian Troops in Borno

An individual identified as an ISWAP fighter surrendered to Nigerian troops from the 192 Battalion in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno, at approximately 12:35 PM on May 7. The surrender took place while soldiers were on picket duty along the Gwoza-Limankara road.

The suspect reported escaping from a terrorist camp located in the Mandara Mountain area. Following the surrender, troops recovered N3,500 from the suspect.

He is currently being held for military profiling and interrogation as part of necessary security procedures. Analysts have noted an increase in the number of terrorists surrendering in recent months due to sustained military pressure on insurgent hideouts across the northeast.

The Nigerian Army continues its clearance operations and patrols in various parts of Borno State to dismantle remaining terrorist camps and encourage further surrenders.
