ISWAP Fighter Captured, Commander Killed in Borno Attack

On Thursday, during an attempted attack by ISWAP terrorists in Kukareta, Borno, troops engaged in a counter-offensive led by Maj Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar. The assault began shortly after midnight and continued until 3:00 AM, with the troops successfully repelling the attack.

During the encounter, 24 terrorists were neutralized, including their commander, Abu Umar Bundi Munzir. The operation resulted in the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition, including 18 AK-47 rifles, three general-purpose machine guns, two anti-aircraft guns, and various other weapons.

Two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter but were stabilized. The operation is described as a significant success in ongoing counter-insurgency efforts, with troops maintaining pressure on terrorist elements in the northeast theater.
