Fertility Experts Urge Awareness and Support for IVF Patients

Stakeholders in the fertility sector have called for increased public education and emotional support for individuals experiencing fertility challenges. This appeal was made at a forum organized by the Fertility Awareness Advocacy Initiative (FAAI) in collaboration with Nordica Fertility Centre, titled “Why IVF Cycles Fail: Understanding, Coping & Moving Forward.” Dr Abayomi Ajayi, the MD/CEO of Nordica Fertility Centre, emphasized the need for healthcare providers to communicate treatment outcomes, especially unsuccessful IVF results, with empathy and sensitivity.

He highlighted that fertility treatment involves significant emotional investment and that patients often experience distress when a cycle fails. Dr Jesse Atongo, a Gynaecologist and fertility expert, pointed out that lifestyle factors, such as smoking and marijuana use, can influence treatment outcomes.

He encouraged patients to discuss their habits with healthcare providers and cautioned against using a single IVF success rate without considering individual patient characteristics.
