Stakeholders Urge Action on Family Planning in Nigeria

During a media engagement in Abuja organized by Family Planning 2030 (FP2030), stakeholders called for sustained action on family planning. FP2030 Consultant Dr Moriam Jagun stated that the newly inaugurated Inter-Ministerial Platform (IMP) on Family Planning, Health and Human Capital Development was created to coordinate actions across various government ministries.

The inaugural meeting included ministers, senior officials, development partners, civil society organizations, and media stakeholders, focusing on the interconnections between family planning, population dynamics, and sustainable national development. Jagun emphasized the need to translate commitments from the meeting into actionable plans with defined responsibilities and measurable indicators.

Margaret Bolaji, Manager of Adolescent and Youth Partnership at FP2030, highlighted that family planning should be viewed as a human capital investment rather than just a health issue. Participants were tasked with developing a four-month media plan to enhance visibility around family planning and its connections to education, finance, and health.
