CISLAC Advocates for Women's Rights on International Women's Day

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), led by Executive Director Comrade Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, has issued a statement on International Women's Day (IWD) 2026, advocating for better conditions for women in Nigeria. The organization emphasizes the need for transformative reforms in laws and policies to accelerate development and ensure the full participation of women and girls in the country.

CISLAC cautions that recent developments indicate a troubling backslide in the gains previously achieved in advancing women's rights. The statement highlights that, despite some progress over the years in raising awareness about gender equality, structural inequities and discrimination continue to limit women's representation and decision-making spaces.

CISLAC urges Nigeria to move beyond symbolic commitments and adopt deliberate gender-transformative reforms to address gaps in laws and the justice system that affect women's rights and opportunities.
