Iyabo Obasanjo and Ishaku Advocate for Women's Rights

During the International Women's Day 2026 celebrations, Iyabo Obasanjo, a former Ogun State senator, and Larai Ishaku, the female executive chairman of Jaba Local Government Area in Kaduna State, called for urgent actions to advance women's rights. Obasanjo stressed the necessity of moving beyond policy promises to achieve tangible results for women and girls, emphasizing that justice requires active efforts to confront discrimination and empower women.

She reflected on the importance of female mentorship and support, stating that women should uplift one another. Ishaku echoed these sentiments, urging for stronger protections for women's rights and gender equality.

She highlighted ongoing challenges posed by discriminatory laws and weak legal protections, calling on government institutions and community leaders to ensure equal rights and justice for women and girls. Both leaders underscored the need for sustained action to empower women socially, economically, and politically.
