UN Report: No Country Achieves Full Gender Equality

The United Nations has released a report indicating that no country has achieved full gender equality, despite decades of advocacy and reform. The report, titled "Ensure Strengthen Access Justice Women Girl," reveals that women globally hold only 64% of the legal rights afforded to men.

It highlights that nearly half of the world's countries have rape laws not based on consent, and 44% lack laws guaranteeing equal pay for equal work. Furthermore, 54% of countries do not have consent-based definitions of rape, leaving women vulnerable to legal discrimination.

UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahou stated that denying justice to women and girls damages public trust and erodes the legitimacy of legal systems. The report also notes that while 87% of countries have laws against domestic violence, survivors often face stigma and financial barriers.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized the need for action to ensure women's rights are upheld, stating that when women are not equal under the law, justice cannot be claimed.
