JAMB Approves Personal Computers for UTME from 2027

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced that candidates will be allowed to use personal computers for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) beginning in 2027. This decision was communicated by the JAMB Registrar during a policy meeting on admissions to tertiary institutions in Abuja.

The initiative aims to address frequent complaints from candidates regarding technical difficulties, such as computers shutting down during examinations. The use of personal devices, including the option to insert flash drives, is designed to prevent malpractice and ensure a more manageable examination process.

Additionally, the Federal Ministry of Education revealed that candidates seeking admission to federal colleges of education will no longer be required to sit for the UTME, as part of a policy change announced during the same meeting. This move is intended to improve access to critical educational programs, particularly in technology and agriculture-related courses, while still requiring candidates to possess basic O-level qualifications.
