2026 UTME Begins with Biometric Verification in Nigeria

The 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) officially began across Nigeria on April 16, 2026, and is scheduled to run until April 22, 2026. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) anticipates participation from approximately 2.2 million candidates at accredited centers nationwide.

Prof. Haq Oloyed, the registrar of JAMB, emphasized the importance of professionalism and dedication among examination officials to ensure the success of the UTME.

He noted that the examination's integrity relies heavily on the efficiency and commitment of the staff involved. JAMB has introduced biometric verification and real-time monitoring systems to safeguard the examination process.

Candidates whose biometric data cannot be verified will have their examinations rescheduled. Oloyed also reiterated JAMB's zero-tolerance policy towards examination malpractice and warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into the examination halls.
