JAMB's Segun Aina Announces New UTME Centre in Canada

Segun Aina, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), explained the decision to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Canada. He responded to concerns about the management of existing UTME centres in Nigeria, stating that the number of candidates was not the primary factor in establishing new centres.
Currently, UTME is conducted in about 10 countries to improve access to education. Aina noted that there are no UTME centres in North America, despite inquiries from potential candidates.
The proposed Canadian centre aims to serve Nigerians returning home for education and children of Nigerian service personnel stationed abroad. Aina clarified that the establishment of the centre would not require JAMB to rent permanent facilities or hire additional staff, as they partner with Nigerian diplomatic missions to use temporary spaces.
He confirmed that no funds had been spent on this initiative so far.
