Tinubu Takes Action to Retain Nigerian Doctors Abroad

President Bola Tinubu has pledged to intensify efforts to curb the migration of Nigerian medical professionals, commonly referred to as "Japa." Speaking in Abuja through the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Ali Pate, during the 50th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the West African College of Physicians, Tinubu stated that the Federal Government aims to encourage healthcare workers to return and serve Nigeria. He highlighted that over 30,000 health professionals have been recruited into federal health facilities in the past two and a half years.
The government is also focusing on improving working conditions, training opportunities, and career progression for healthcare workers. Tinubu mentioned ongoing reforms to enhance healthcare infrastructure, expand health insurance, and strengthen primary healthcare delivery.
He emphasized that quality healthcare should be accessible to all Nigerians and noted investments in health facilities and digital innovations for better patient management.
