Japan Sets High Income Threshold for Digital Nomad Visa

Japan has officially announced the income requirement for its Digital Nomad Visa, mandating that applicants earn an individual annual income of at least ¥10 million (N83,835,398) at the time of application. This requirement positions Japan's visa as one of the more financially demanding options available globally.

The visa is categorized under Japan's designated activities residence and permits a one-month stay, with no option for renewal. Applicants must wait at least six months after departing Japan before they can apply again.

Additionally, visa holders are not eligible for a residence card, limiting their access to administrative rights and services available to longer-term foreign residents. The nationality requirement stipulates that applicants must be citizens of countries listed on Japan's official target list, emphasizing that residency in an eligible nation is insufficient.

This income threshold indicates Japan's focus on attracting high-earning professionals rather than the broader freelance demographic targeted by other countries' digital nomad visa programs.
