Jigawa Assembly Suspends Speaker Over Anti-Party Allegations

The Jigawa State House of Assembly suspended Haruna Maigari, the Speaker of the Auyo Legislative Council, due to allegations of anti-party activities. The suspension was announced during a plenary session on Tuesday in Dutsin-Ma, following a motion adopted by the majority leader, Lawan Dansur.

The Assembly's action was taken based on claims that Maigari's conduct was detrimental to the unity and progress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. Dansur argued that Maigari's actions undermined the party's grassroots strength ahead of future elections.

The Assembly unanimously adopted the motion, leading to the immediate suspension of Maigari, pending further investigation by a committee tasked with examining the allegations. This committee is expected to submit its findings within two weeks and recommend any necessary further actions.

The Deputy Speaker of the Auyo Legislative Council has been directed to ensure the continuation of legislative activities during this suspension.
