Jigawa Assembly Suspends Speaker Over Anti-Party Activities

The Jigawa State House of Assembly suspended Haruna Maigari, the Speaker of the Auyo Legislative Council, due to allegations of anti-party activities that threaten the unity of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The suspension was announced by Haruna Dangyatin during a plenary session on Tuesday.

Lawan Dansur, a major leader, moved the motion for disciplinary action against Maigari, arguing that his conduct undermines the APC's performance in future elections. The House adopted the motion, and Dangyatin emphasized the need to protect the party's integrity ahead of the 2027 elections.

The suspension takes immediate effect, and a committee has been constituted to investigate the matter and report back within two weeks. Meanwhile, the House received a formal notification from Governor Umar Namadi regarding his official trip to attend the West African Rice Investment Roundtable in Accra, Ghana, scheduled for June 2-3, 2026.
