Jigawa Police Arrest Man for Stabbing Customer Over N500

On October 1, 2026, at approximately 12:30 am, Lawisi Safiyanu, a 20-year-old man, was arrested by the Jigawa State Police Command for allegedly stabbing 25-year-old Muhammad Abba to death during a dispute over a N500 balance from a mobile handset purchase. Abba had bought the handset for N1,500, paying N1,000 upfront but was unable to pay the remaining N500 immediately, which led to a disagreement.
During this altercation, Safiyanu allegedly used a knife to stab Abba. The victim was taken to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse for medical treatment but died while receiving care.
Following the incident, police detectives recovered the knife used in the stabbing as evidence. The suspect has been charged in court.
The Commissioner of Police, Tijjani Murtala, urged the public to remain calm and report any suspicious activities or disputes to the police.
