Man Arrested for Stabbing Over N500 Dispute in Cross River
Ebino Ikpi was arrested on Sunday at approximately 8:40 a.m. in his hideout in the Ajere-Ekori area of Yakurr local government, following the alleged stabbing of 42-year-old Ayei Ibor. The incident took place around 1 a.m. in Kekoti, Ajere, stemming from a disagreement over a N500 gift that had been given to both men.
According to the police spokesperson, Sunday Eitokpah, the disagreement escalated into a fight, resulting in Ibor being stabbed and later confirmed dead. After the incident, Ikpi fled the scene, prompting a police search that led to his arrest.
He was taken to the Yakurr Police Division for detention and further investigation. The Commissioner of Police in Cross River, Ajo Ordue, has instructed that Ikpi be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for additional inquiries.
Following Ikpi's arrest, there was a subsequent incident where sympathizers allegedly attacked the Ekori Police Division, demanding his release.
