Cross River Man Killed Over N500 Dispute; Suspect Arrested

A man was stabbed to death in Cross River following a heated argument on Sunday morning over the sharing of a N500 gift. The Cross River State Police Command confirmed the incident and initiated efforts to arrest the suspect and recover the deceased's remains for a medical examination.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, reported that the suspect, identified as Ikpi, was arrested at his hideout in the Ajere-Ekori area and taken to the Yakurr Division for detention and further investigation. Following the arrest, a mob of sympathizers attacked the Ekori Police Division, mistakenly believing the suspect was being held there.

The group threw stones at the station, causing property damage. The mob also targeted the residence of the Ajere Youth Leader, Omini Jacob.

Police operatives responded promptly to disperse the crowd and restore order. Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, directed the transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
