Jigawa State Exceeds Polio Vaccination Target by 117%

The Jigawa State government has successfully surpassed its polio vaccination target, achieving a coverage rate of 117% by vaccinating over 2.6 million children across 27 local government areas. This accomplishment was reported during a workshop organized by the Jigawa State Healthcare Development Agency in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) held at a three-star hotel in Dutsin-Ma.

Ashiru Muazu, the Deputy State Immunization Officer, described the first round of this immunization exercise as the best so far, noting that at least 60 children were reached per local government area. Muazu commended the media for its role in public sensitization, emphasizing the importance of information dissemination for the success of the immunization campaign.

Shehu Ibrahim, the State Immunization Officer, acknowledged fluctuations in vaccination coverage across local government areas due to non-compliance from some households, highlighting the need for increased awareness among parents regarding vaccination schedules.
