Nasarawa, UNICEF to Vaccinate 1.5 Million Children

Nasarawa State, in collaboration with UNICEF, has set a target to vaccinate 1,550,705 children against polio during a campaign scheduled from May 2 to May 5, 2026. Dr.

Usman Saleh, the Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, disclosed this during a media dialogue in Lafia. The campaign will include polio vaccination, nutrition services, and basic healthcare access through health camps across 13 local government areas.

The initiative aims to address acute malnutrition identified during previous vaccination exercises. Salom Aya, Director of Nutrition at the agency, noted that health camps will provide nutritional services and treatment for minor illnesses in malnourished children.

Dr. Ahm Tsofo from UNICEF emphasized the importance of preventing polio among children under five and urged media involvement to counter misinformation and encourage vaccination participation.

The campaign aims to ensure no eligible child misses the polio vaccine.
