Kaduna Targets 2.5M Children for Polio Immunization

Kaduna State is set to launch a polio immunization campaign targeting 2.5 million children aged 0 to 59 months, commencing on March 29 and concluding on April 3, 2026. Isa Yushau, a health education officer with the Kaduna State Primary Healthcare Board, disclosed this during a media dialogue with journalists and social media influencers.

The campaign will be conducted across 23 local government areas, focusing on 28,000 settlements. This initiative is part of a broader national campaign covering 14 states, including Kano, Katsina, Niger, Yobe, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Kwara, and Nasarawa.

The campaign aims to address previous resistance, which saw non-compliance cases drop from 7,000 to 1,000 due to intensified community engagement. Yushau emphasized the importance of parents ensuring their children receive vaccinations, highlighting that immunization is critical for protecting against poliomyelitis.

Health officials expressed optimism for improved coverage throughout the state.
