Civil Group Demands NAFDAC DG's Removal Over Alcohol Ban

The civil society group Concerned Citizens Change has demanded the immediate removal of Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). At a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Executive Director Stephen Eriba criticized Adeyeye for what he described as gross incompetence and abuse of office, particularly regarding an arbitrary ban on sachet alcohol and small PET bottle alcohol products.

Eriba argued that the ban contravenes existing national policy frameworks and violates provisions of the national alcohol policy approved by the Federal Ministry of Health. He emphasized that the ban disregards a presidential directive to halt enforcement pending a review by a joint committee.

The group warned that the policy could negatively impact businesses, jobs, and government revenue, increasing the circulation of illicit and unregulated alcohol products. They urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take action against Adeyeye, stating that her continued tenure is not in the public interest.
