NMA Criticizes NLC and TUC Ultimatum Over JOHESU Strike

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has raised alarm over the ultimatum given by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to the federal government to address the ongoing strike by the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU). Dr. Mannir Batur, the NMA National Public Secretary, criticized the ultimatum as unnecessary and urged caution in handling sensitive salary structure issues to avoid misinformation.

The NMA clarified that there has been no upgrade to the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) as claimed by the NLC and TUC, emphasizing the need for transparency and dialogue in resolving healthcare sector challenges. The NMA called on the government to prioritize efficient engagement and respect existing agreements to address workforce remuneration and welfare concerns.

The association highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration in addressing systemic challenges within Nigeria's healthcare system.
