JOHESU Suspends Nationwide Strike in Nigeria After Government Agreements

The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) in Nigeria have decided to suspend their indefinite nationwide strike that began on November 15, 2025. The decision came after a conciliation session with the federal government at the Ministry of Labour and Employment headquarters in Abuja.

JOHESU cited the government's failure to implement the adjusted Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and unresolved welfare issues as reasons for the strike. Following extensive deliberations and a review of the terms of settlement, JOHESU's expanded National Executive Council unanimously agreed to suspend the strike to allow for the implementation of the agreements reached with the government.

The union expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their patience during the industrial action and emphasized the need to avoid future strikes. Several negotiation meetings were held in January and February 2026 to resolve the trade dispute, leading to agreements on budgetary provisions for CONHESS adjustments and immediate salary payments for JOHESU members.
