JOHESU Threatens Fresh Strike Over Salary Adjustments

The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) has threatened to embark on a new nationwide strike if the Nigerian federal government does not implement agreed-upon salary adjustments by a specified deadline. Dr.

Bassey Icha, the chairman of JOHESU in Cross River State, issued the warning during an interview in Calabar. The union had previously suspended a strike that began on November 15, 2025, following government appeals and assurances.

JOHESU is advocating for fair salary reviews in line with existing government salary structures and parity with doctors. The union highlighted disparities in health worker salaries compared to other West African countries like Ghana.

JOHESU emphasized the need for improved training, modern equipment, and better working conditions to enhance healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
