Jonathan Surprised by Buhari's Handling of Boko Haram, Sparks Controversy

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan expressed surprise at his successor, late President Muhammadu Buhari, for not ending the Boko Haram insurgency as expected. Jonathan recalled how Buhari was once nominated by the extremist group to negotiate on their behalf, raising hopes for a quick resolution.

Jonathan also acknowledged the Chibok schoolgirl abduction in 2014 as a lasting scar on his administration. In response, Buhari's former spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu, criticized Jonathan's remarks, stating that Buhari was nominated by Boko Haram as a mediator, not by Jonathan.

The comments were made during the unveiling of Jonathan's book on the Boko Haram crisis in Abuja.
