Jonathan, Obi Eye PDP as Party’s NEC Zones Presidency to South

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially zoned the party's presidential ticket to the southern part of the country, paving the way for potential candidates like former President Goodluck Jonathan and State governor Peter Obi to contest in the 2027 presidential race. While Jonathan has not formally declared his candidacy, Obi has indicated interest in the 2027 presidential election without specifying the political party he would run under.

The NEC also approved the zoning of the national chairman position to the North, while retaining the office of the National Working Committee (NWC) in the respective zones. The NEC expressed satisfaction with the party's level of preparedness for the 2025 National Convention and condemned the alleged State Capture and intimidation tactics by the All Progressives Congress (APC) during recent elections.
