Rights Group Blames Leadership Failures After Jos Attack

The human rights organization HURIWA, represented by its national coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Owubiko, condemned the Nigerian federal government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for their leadership failures following a violent attack in Jos on Palm Sunday. The attack, which occurred in Angwa Rukuba, resulted in at least 10 confirmed deaths, although the official toll has not yet been released.

Local reports indicated that gunmen opened fire, causing panic among residents and prompting humanitarian workers to advise people to remain indoors due to ongoing security concerns. HURIWA highlighted the need for improved coordination among security agencies and proactive measures to prevent further violence in Plateau State, which has experienced repeated incidents linked to complex disputes involving land use, ethnicity, and religion.

The group urged authorities to demonstrate a greater commitment to protecting vulnerable communities in the aftermath of this tragic event.
