Sowore Claims DSS Arrested Journalist to Disrupt Bail

Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and former presidential candidate, has dismissed the Department of State Services (DSS) explanation regarding the arrest of journalist Zainab Sodiq. Sowore alleges that Sodiq's detention is connected to his bail process rather than her supposed involvement with a drone.

He stated that Sodiq was not arrested for carrying a drone but was instead targeted to obstruct his bail conditions. Sowore claimed that Sodiq voluntarily reported to the DSS office and was taken into custody without the opportunity to settle her transportation fare.

He further alleged that the DSS changed its narrative regarding Sodiq's detention after public backlash on social media. Sowore accused the DSS of using harassment tactics against journalists and activists, asserting that this incident is part of a broader pattern of repression against dissenters.

The DSS had previously stated that Sodiq was intercepted for traveling with an unmanned aerial vehicle without the required certification.
