Olive Medicare's Dr. Aipoh Calls for Healthcare Investigations

At a two-day seminar titled “All Inclusive Mass Media Seminar” held in Lagos, journalists were urged to investigate failures in Nigeria's healthcare system rather than just raise awareness. Dr. Augustine Aipoh, the Medical Director of Olive Medicare Hospital, emphasized the need for journalists to assess whether healthcare policies are effectively implemented.

He noted that while numerous healthcare policies exist, they often lack meaningful action. Aipoh stressed the importance of placing patients at the center of healthcare reporting and urged journalists to verify facts before reporting on complaints against hospitals or insurers.

He highlighted the critical role of health insurance in protecting households from financial burdens due to illness and called for journalists to simplify insurance concepts for the public. Additionally, he advocated for closer scrutiny of healthcare financing, including the Basic Health Care Provision Fund established under the National Health Act.
