JRB Clarifies TIN Will Not Cause Bank Deductions

Mr. Olusegun Adesokan, the Executive Secretary of the Joint Revenue Board (JRB), addressed concerns regarding the Tax Identification Number (TIN), stating that it will not lead to automatic or arbitrary deductions from taxpayers' bank accounts.

He dismissed these claims as unfounded rumors. Adesokan commended taxpayers who have already obtained their TINs and clarified that the new TIN portal is set to launch on January 1, 2026.

This portal aims to create a centralized taxpayer database managed jointly by the JRB and the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) to support tax reforms and economic growth. He urged taxpayers to retrieve their TINs through the user-friendly platform designed for seamless access and compliance with data protection regulations.

The initiative is part of ongoing fiscal tax reforms under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, with feedback from taxpayers being collected to improve the process.
