New Tax Identification Portal Launches in Nigeria

The Joint Revenue Board (JRB) and Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) have launched a new tax identification portal, which became fully operational on January 1, 2026. This centralized platform enables individuals to obtain a unique 13-digit tax identification number using their national identification number, while businesses can retrieve their registration number issued by the Corporate Affairs Commission.

The portal is designed to be user-friendly and efficient, facilitating quick access to tax IDs. Feedback from users has been collected through a structured questionnaire shared across digital platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Mr. Effiong Abasifrek, head of the help desk team, reported that 98 percent of respondents experienced a seamless process in retrieving their tax IDs.

Olusegun Adesokan, the Executive Secretary of JRB, urged taxpayers who have not yet retrieved their tax IDs to utilize the self-service system, which ensures strong data protection and compliance with regulations set by the Nigerian Data Protection Commission.
