Julius Berger Advocates Sustainable Construction at Summit

Julius Berger Nigeria Plc participated in the Future Cities Summit 2026, organized by the Green Building Council Nigeria (GBCN) in Lagos, under the theme "Building the Future: Scaling Sustainability for Greener Cities." The summit gathered key stakeholders from the built environment sector to discuss sustainable construction and urban resilience. On the final day, Engr. Thomas Christl, Regional Manager of Julius Berger, was a panellist in a session titled “Materials, Methods, and Margins: Low Carbon Construction Constraints and Opportunities.” Alongside him was Chief Risk Officer, Mrs. Shakira Mustapha.

The panel included industry experts such as Mr. Tope Ilusanmi from Saint-Gobain Nigeria and Miss Ruby Uche. Christl identified high upfront costs as a barrier to low-carbon construction but noted that sustainable buildings offer long-term value through reduced maintenance and energy costs.

He advocated for collaboration among academic institutions, construction companies, and regulators to promote recycled concrete adoption in Nigeria and stressed the importance of effective communication of innovations within the construction sector.
