Adamawa, Zamfara Senators Defect from PDP to APC

Senators Aminu Abba, representing Adamawa Central, and Ikra Bilbi, representing Zamfara North, have officially resigned their memberships from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision was influenced by prolonged internal divisions within the PDP that have significantly impaired its cohesion and functionality.

Abba cited the persistent crisis and structural fractures within the party as factors affecting its national leadership and operational stability. He formally notified the Senate of his decision to defect, referencing Section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution, which allows members of the legislature to retain their seats upon defecting due to divisions within their political party.

Bilbi's decision followed consultations with political associates and stakeholders, indicating a need to align with the federal government amidst the ongoing crisis within the PDP. Both defections highlight the growing instability within the PDP as it approaches upcoming elections.
