CAN Declares June 14 Black Sunday for Terror Victims

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has officially declared June 14, 2026, as "Black Sunday" in remembrance of victims of terrorist attacks throughout Nigeria. This announcement was made during a leadership summit in 2026, presided over by Archbishop Daniel Okoh.

The association also scheduled a three-day national prayer program from June 12 to June 14, highlighting the importance of prayer while acknowledging that it is not sufficient to tackle the country's security challenges. Archbishop Okoh urged the federal government to declare a state of emergency due to the worsening security situation and to implement measures that demonstrate urgency in confronting these threats.

He called for the acceleration of state police and the decentralization of the nation's security architecture to enable quicker responses to threats and improve the protection of lives and property. Additionally, he demanded the unconditional release of kidnapping victims and stressed the need for justice regarding violent crimes.
