Rivers State High Court Dismisses Motion to Halt Local Government Election, Orders Proceeding as Scheduled

The Rivers State High Court has dismissed a motion seeking to halt the local government election scheduled for August 30th in the state. The presiding judge ruled that the motion lacked merit and granted an order for the election to proceed as scheduled.

The suit, filed by a lawyer, sought to stop the election and questioned the appointment of the chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC). The judge directed the defendant to conduct the election as planned and adjourned the case for a hearing on the substantive suit.
