Court Sentences Three to Death for Terrorism in Sokoto

On June 13, 2025, three men, including a Nigerien national, were apprehended by the Department of State Services (DSS) in connection with cross-border crime and arms trafficking. They were subsequently tried at the Sokoto State High Court, where Justice Muhammad Nuraddeen Bello delivered the judgment.

The court found Yusuf Muhammad, Alia Sallau, and Jabbi Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad guilty of terrorism-related offenses and sentenced them to death by hanging. Additionally, the court ordered the convicts to forfeit their assets to the federal government.

This judgment comes shortly after a federal high court in Abuja sentenced five suspects linked to a November 21, 2025, attack on St. Mary's Catholic School in Niger State to 25 years in prison for various terrorism-related charges.

The DSS continues its efforts to dismantle terrorist networks operating within and beyond Nigeria.
