Crisis in Benue APC as Factions Elect Separate Chairmen

A significant crisis has emerged within the Benue chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as party members conducted parallel congresses, resulting in the election of two separate chairmen. The congresses took place in Makurdi, with Austin Agada being returned as the state chairman by one faction, which aligns with Georg Akum as the secretary.

The rival faction, loyal to Governor Hyacinth Alia, elected Benjamin Omal as their state chairman. The congresses were attended by party stakeholders from across the 23 local government areas of the state and were officiated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies.

In his acceptance speech, Agada expressed gratitude to party members for renewing his mandate, emphasizing that the APC, as the opposition party, would not betray the trust placed in them despite challenges faced in building the party. He assured members that his renewed tenure would not disappoint.
