APC Faces Crisis as New Faction Declares Chairman

A significant crisis has emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a new faction led by Nentaw Yilwatda has declared a new chairman, deepening the party's leadership troubles. This development raises fresh concerns about the party's ability to present a united front in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Tensions escalated following a failed reconciliation meeting convened by the president, which did not yield a meaningful outcome and instead exposed deeper divisions within the party's hierarchy. The rift intensified when Yilwatda's faction made a financial offer of 40 billion naira to the rival group led by Hafsatu Danladi to resolve the impasse, which was outrightly rejected, further widening the divide.

Sources indicate that the disagreement threatens the APC's chances of fielding a strong presidential candidate in 2027 if not urgently addressed. Legal challenges are anticipated, with indications that the matter may soon be decided in court, potentially questioning the legitimacy of the current leadership and involving the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
