EFCC Arraigns Ex-Minister Chris Ngige on Contract Fraud Charges

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Senator Chris Ngige, a former Minister of Labour, on eight counts of contract fraud at the FCT High Court in Gwarimpa. Ngige pleaded not guilty to the charges and the court set the trial date for October 31.

The EFCC alleges that Ngige used his position to confer undue advantage in awarding multiple contracts to companies linked to him during his time as the governor of Anambra State (2003-2006) and as Minister of Labour (2015-2023). Following rumors of his kidnapping, Ngige's media aide, Fred Chukwuelob, is reportedly in EFCC custody.
