El-Rufai Family Demands Immediate Release from ICPC Custody

The family of Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, is calling for his immediate and unconditional release from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). They argue that his continued detention, which began on February 18, 2026, is without legal foundation.

The ICPC obtained a remand order from a magistrate court on February 19, 2026, which allowed for a 14-day detention period. However, the family contends that this order is defective and that the ICPC has failed to file any charges against El-Rufai within the stipulated time.

As of March 5, 2026, the family asserts that there is no valid legal instrument authorizing his continued detention, which they describe as unlawful and indicative of political persecution. Moham Bello El-Rufai, a member of the House of Representatives, signed the statement emphasizing the lack of legal grounds for the ICPC's actions.
