Nigeria Launches ECOWAS Biometric ID Card to Boost Security

The Nigerian government has introduced the ECOWAS Biometric ID Card to strengthen security measures and combat cross-border crimes in the region. The project, led by President Bola Tinubu, aims to modernize identification systems and improve intelligence gathering.

The new card will integrate with global standards, reducing document fraud and irregular migration. Additionally, the Nigeria Immigration Service plans to introduce a single emergency travel passport in January to assist stranded citizens.
