Nigerian Immigration Service Introduces Biometric Passport to Combat Migrant Smuggling

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has launched a biometric emergency passport to bolster border security and combat migrant smuggling. The initiative aims to replace current travel certificates with a more secure system.

NIS Controller General, Kemi Nanna Nandap, emphasized the need for modernization to tackle document fraud and improve border governance. The NIS is collaborating with global partners, including the African Union and European Union, to strengthen identification management and enhance international standards.
