FG Redeploys Police to Kwara After Deadly Terror Attacks

The Federal Government of Nigeria has redeployed police officers from VIP escort duties to communities in Kwara State that were recently attacked by terrorists, resulting in the reported deaths of 75 individuals. Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Police Affairs, announced this decision on Friday, stating that it is part of an effort to intensify security operations under the "Operation Savannah Shield." The redeployment follows a large-scale withdrawal of officers assigned to VIP protection nationwide, allowing for a reassignment of core community policing functions.

This measure aims to strengthen the visible security presence in vulnerable communities across Kwara, particularly in the northern central region of the state. Idris condemned the attacks as "beastly" and "heartless," emphasizing that they exemplify a campaign by terrorists targeting soft subjects.

He stated that the President has directed a full response against those threatening peace, and the Federal Government remains committed to a Nigerian-led counter-terrorism operation, welcoming intelligence cooperation from international partners as necessary.
