Legal Suit Seeks to Block Goodluck Jonathan from 2027 Presidential Race

A fresh legal suit has been filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to bar former President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election in Nigeria. The plaintiff, lawyer Johnmary Chukwukasi Jideobi, requested the court to issue a perpetual injunction restraining Jonathan from presenting himself for nomination or participating in the election.

The suit also urged the court to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting or publishing Jonathan's name as a presidential candidate. The plaintiff argued that Jonathan is constitutionally ineligible to contest for the presidency and that INEC lacks the power to recognize him as a candidate for the 2027 election.

The case seeks to legally prevent Jonathan's participation in the upcoming presidential race.
