Lawyer Seeks Court Order to Bar Jonathan from 2027 Presidential Race

Lawyer Johnmary Chukwukasi Jideobi has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to prevent former President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election. The suit argues that Jonathan has already served two terms as President and is constitutionally barred from running for a third term.

Jideobi's legal action requests a perpetual injunction to stop Jonathan from presenting his nomination to any political party and urges the court to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting his candidacy. The lawsuit is based on constitutional provisions that limit presidential terms to two, emphasizing that allowing Jonathan to contest again would violate the Constitution's stipulations on term limits.
